Conflict Happens
People don’t all think the same way or see situations in the same way. Sometimes, our disagreements
get the better of us. Sometimes we think we can’t talk with another person without getting into
an unpleasant disagreement. And so,
We argue repetitively.
We let issues stew and resentment build.
We fight.
We litigate.
We cut our losses.
We end friendships.
We move.
We endure strained work or business relationships.
How the Mediation Center Helps
The Mediation Center of Dutchess County, Inc. helps people have the difficult conversations they need
to have and promotes conflict resolution by:
- Offering high-quality mediation services, giving parties in conflict an opportunity
to discuss issues, gain clarity about their situation, and make decisions about how to move forward.
- Training management and employees in the skills of mediation, conflict intervention,
and alternative responses to conflict.
- Providing organizational facilitationconducted by neutral third-party professionals.
Organizational Facilitation
Sometimes groups of people in an organization want to have conversations that help them get clearer
and make decisions around important issues. The Mediation Center can help groups think about
what’s important and what solutions would best meet the group’s needs.
Surprising things happen. Parties may develop a new understanding
of their dispute or of the other party’s point of view. Through mediation, people often become
clearer about their options and their best course of action.
Most importantly, parties retain the power to act on their own insights and decisions.
Mediation is based upon the idea that people are capable of knowing and doing what is in
their best interests.
Whatever happens in mediation, the outcome is decided by the parties in conflict—not
by the mediator.
Fees
Mediation, organizational facilitation and training are offered by the hour. Fees vary for non-profit
