Mediation Center Hosts Roundtable Conversation to Overcome Bullying
The Mediation Center of Dutchess County will hold a roundtable, "What are the Gaps to Overcome Bullying: A Community Conversation," February 15, 2012, 6pm-8pm in the Presentation Room, Hancock Center at Marist College. The event’s purpose is to bring together various voices to discuss the gaps in bullying prevention and response. Because the general consensus is that one out of three children is bullied at school, in the neighborhood or online and that one out of three children bullies others, involving everyone in preventing and responding to bullying is necessary to overcome it. The Mediation Center will also hold its 1st Anti-Bullying Walkathon and Art Show, March 31, 2012, 9am-11am on the Walkway Over the Hudson. New York State Bar Association Provides Grant for Development of Surrogate's Court Mediation Pilot Project

The Mediation Center of Dutchess County has received a $5,000 grant from the New York State Bar Association to develop the first phase of a program that allows families to address contested wills, estates and guardianships through mediation. Families, either on their own or with their attorneys, can develop workable solutions that can reduce time spent in court.
The program is planned to launch later this year in cooperation with Dutchess County Surrogate’s Court and the Dutchess County Bar Association. The Mediation Center provides and promotes conflict prevention, management, and resolution services and education to individuals, families, businesses, and organizations in Dutchess County.

Mediation Center Executive Director Presents at Alternative Dispute Resolution Conference in Italy
Jody Miller, executive director of the Mediation Center of Dutchess County, conducted a presentation titled, “Mediating Commercial Cases in US Municipal Courts,” at the Alternative Dispute Resolution Models in China and Western Countries Practice Conference in Pisa, Italy on November 25 & 26. The conference was co-sponsored by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, a sister school of Hofstra University, and the Confucius Institute in Pisa. Jody, with colleague Judy Saul, represented Hofstra University at the conference. Other presenters were from Italy, other EU countries and China and presentations were about the development of Alternative Dispute Resolution in China, the use of international arbitration and a critique of mediation as a barrier to access to justice.
