Coalition on Elder Abuse launches Steering, Advocacy, Education, & Multi-Disciplinary Team Sub-Committees to Increase its Impact
The Coalition on Elder Abuse in Dutchess County works together collaboratively and cooperatively to protect elders from abuse, neglect and exploitation and to preserve the quality of their lives. Twenty-six members of the Coalition, including community individuals and representatives of private and public agencies/organizations met for a special two-hour planning meeting at the Clubhouse at
Crown Heights (Town of Poughkeepsie). A pot luck luncheon preceded the meeting and the facilities at The Clubhouse (complimentary for our gathering and much appreciated) provided the perfect atmosphere for the networking that ensued.
The Coalition worked to continue their task of creating an effective elder abuse prevention network by forming and working in 4 distinct sub-committees:
- WEAAD/Steering will plan our annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day conference and provide leadership and evaluation of the Coalition’s activities.
- Education/Awareness will research the possibility of inviting elder abuse experts to speak at monthly meetings and maintain the accuracy of our print materials, among other related tasks
- Policy/Advocacy will research laws and mandates and look to invite older adult advocacy experts to speak to the Coalition.
- Multi-Disciplinary Team members will look to bring this proven best practices approach to addressing elder abuse cases to Dutchess County.
